Just when I was least expecting it, I ran across a video titled “My Rock, Paper, Scissors Robot Never Loses (+9 Other Inventions).”

Before we go there, this video features Mark Rober, who is the head engineer over at CrunchLabs. One of the things they do at CrunchLabs is sell DIY projects called Build Boxes, which arrive monthly and are perfect for kids ages 8 to 13, and Hack Packs, which arrive bimonthly and are perfect for teens (14+) and adults (like me!).

But we digress… the video in question features the following inventions and demonstrations:

  • A choir of 22 screaming chicken heads
  • A deflagration tube (don’t ask)
  • A room-temperature ice rink
  • A 3D chair made from one continuous 2D sheet of plywood
  • A frozen wave of liquid water
  • A Nerf-ball gathering Roomba robot
  • Words fail me
  • A SIMON-playing robot
  • A rock, paper, scissors-playing robot
  • An infinite slinky staircase

I don’t know about you, but I would LOVE to build one of those rock, paper, scissors-playing robots. Failing that, I love the trick Mark shares in the video that teaches you how to win at rock, paper, scissors with humans 75% of the time.

I’m going to try this myself at the first opportunity. Meanwhile, as always, what do you think about all of this?
