I’ve just seen a video of an amazingly versatile robot dog. Also, a fantastic demonstration of two different 6DOF (six degrees of freedom) robot arms. I was pointed toward both of these little beauties by my chum Matt Pulzer, so a big shout-out and thanks to him.

Before we look at those videos, I was reminded of the robot eyes created by my friend Steve Manley. As you can see in this video, these eyes can move up-down and left-right.

The thing that amazed me here is that the only way I’ve seen this sort of motion achieved before is to start with an eye attached to one servo that moves in one plane (say up-down), and then mount this eye-servo assembly on top of a second servo that moves in the other plane (left-right). As you’ll see in the above video, Steve came at this in a way that I’d never seen before.

The reason I was reminded of Steve’s implementation is that Matt pointed me at this video showing 6DOF (six degrees of freedom) being achieved in two completely different ways.

Matt followed this up with this video, which shows a LYNX M20 series robot dog created by the Chinese company Deep Robotics (I would LOVE to be a young engineer working on this sort of thing).

O-M-Goodness gracious me, is all I can say. What about you? Do you have any thoughts you’d care to share on robots in general and on the offerings from Deep Robotics in particular?
