I’m scared to think how many “global person hours” are spent watching YouTube each day (or each hour, for that matter). I’m sure that I contribute more than my fair share because I will be happily researching one thing when YouTube temps me with another… and another… and another.
Such was the case when I ran across this video of David C. Roy’s mesmerizing kinetic sculptures, which are predominantly created out of wood.
It seems that David is a self-taught artist with a background in physics. I’m sure the physics comes in very useful with regard to his kinetic creations, which — powered by mechanical wind-up mechanisms — can run for up to 48 hours on a single wind.
I tell you. These are beautiful to behold and relaxing to watch. I could sit quietly in the corner observing them perform their magic for hours. Unfortunately, after seeing this video, I now have more projects to add to my list of things to do before I eventually shrug off this mortal coil and head out for the next plane of my existence.
How about you. Are you as enamored with these bodacious beauties as am I? And, if so, could you be tempted to try your hand at building one?
Make something without a power source? I don’t think I could.
But I really do like these. I looked at the prices- For the time spent to design and produce combined with the artistic value I am sure they are fairly priced, but hardly in my budget.
I would to have one of these hanging on my wall, but the only way that’s going to happen is for me to build one, any I’m 100% committed time-wise for the foreseeable future (sob sob)
I really like these but I didn’t have to look at the prices to know they are out of my budget. They also appear to be a bit out of my woodworking skills also.I wonder if anyone makes a kit for a smaller simpler version of something like this.
I agree — I think it’s a case of, “If you have to ask, you can’t afford it” LOL But I would love it if he provided plans (or kits)
After thinking about this a bit, I remembered a vague idea I had based on an article you wrote a while back about tubular pipes. (https://www.clivemaxfield.com/for-whom-the-tubular-bells-toll/)
My thought was to create a wind powered device that would play a tune (rather than the random notes you get with a wind chime).
I may have to think about this idea a bit more. Don’t hold your breath, this could take a while…
“wind powered device” … “don’t hold your breath…” No pun intended? LOL
