My chum Charles Pfeil just sent me an email saying, “I think you will like this!” I must admit that I was hoping he’d discovered some way to teleport a bacon sandwich via the internet because I’m feeling a tad peckish. Instead, he included a link to this video, which took (what I laughingly call) my mind away from bacon (which is no easy task, let me tell you).
I don’t know about you, but I think that this video is awesome. It offers a simple visual way to illustrate all sorts of concepts — limiting friction, normal reaction, force direction, turning moment, center-of-gravity, etc. — along with techniques to overcome each issue as it arises.
I hear there are a lot of videos of this ilk out there on YouTube. Have you seen any of them? Do they beat this one? Which is your favorite?
This video is a great example of the learning process in which the challenges continually change and the products need to adapt to succeed. I only wish those who create plastic packaging that is impossible to open without scissors would make improvements. One time I bought some scissors that were packaged in that manner. I went into what is called “Wrap Rage”. Now that I am completely off subject, if I was King, I would require all corporate board members to open the packaging of their products before they are released.
“Wrap Rage”? I’ve never heard the term but I well know the emotion LOL

I’m with you 100% Charles. I once bought a non-stick frying pan which had a label stuck in the middle. I got the label off but there was a gob of glue in the pan still. And I could not get it off. I tried teasing it off with my fingernails, then a variety of solvents, to no avail. I took it back to the shop and got a refund, not without a bit of argument… I eventually won by saying that it was supposed to be non-stick and was obviously not fit for purpose.
And then you get the card boxes that have a nice flap in one side that is supposed to fit into a slot in the other side to keep it closed. Trouble is that they are so completely stuck together that you destroy both in the process of opening the box.
Ah, to be king for a day….. 😂
Since you mentioned teleportation, can you write us (dummies) an article that explains quantum teleportation research and what these scientists expect they will be able to use it for in the future?
No problem — I’ll just teleport myself back in time so that I have enough time to do it LOL
To simplify things, I would be fine with teleportation as a means of transportation. It would not need to take me into the past or future.
You have to think big on this sort of thing
Step by step. Just like the Lego tractor.
Lego is awesome in that you can do stuff like this so easily. Imagine if you had to design and make all the parts yourself along the way. AARRGGHHHHH!
Arrrgggghhh indeed 🙂
